The Forward Township planning commission meeting, scheduled to discuss a proposed data center, was abruptly canceled due to an overwhelming turnout of residents and individuals from outside the township, all expressing opposition to the project. The large crowd, attributed partly to social media traction, exceeded the meeting room's safe capacity, prompting intervention from State Police, County Sheriff's, and fire officials who deemed the gathering unsafe.
The proposed data center is slated for development at the former Misty Hollow Farm on Prospect Road within Forward Township. Township officials stated that by the time they realized the expected attendance, it was too late to secure an alternative, larger venue, as meeting locations must be advertised 24 hours in advance.
While an official notice has yet to be posted on the township's website, officials anticipate the rescheduled meeting to take place on October 1. The incident highlights significant local opposition to the data center development.
