Lacy Lakeview city leaders could face recall election over data center controversy
Residents of Lacy Lakeview have filed recall petitions targeting Mayor Charles Wilson, Mayor Pro Tem Jonathan Olvera and Council Member Ronnie Hurst over alleged lack of transparency regarding proposed Infraey data center developments. The recall effort will proceed only if the city secretary verifies that the petitions contain enough valid signatures.
Lacy Lakeview residents are seeking the recall of Mayor Charles Wilson, Mayor Pro Tem Jonathan Olvera and Council Member Ronnie Hurst, citing the officials' handling of proposed Infraey data center developments. Resident David Ned Belek, one of two people behind the effort, said the council has not been transparent and has failed to consider the projects' long-term effects on the community.
Under the city charter, the city secretary must determine whether the petitions contain enough valid signatures. If they do, the officials may request a public hearing within the prescribed period; if they do not resign afterward, the council would be required to call a recall election at the earliest date permitted by Texas law. If the signatures are insufficient, the recall effort will not move forward.
