Imperial County Supervisors reverse data center land approval
Developers of the Imperial Data Center in Southern California faced a setback when Imperial County Supervisors reversed their approval of a land plan for the nearly one-million-square-foot facility. This hyperscale data center, designed for AI/ML, would be the largest in California.
The Imperial Data Center, a proposed nearly one-million-square-foot hyperscale facility by Imperial Valley Computer Manufacturing, LLC, has encountered a significant obstacle in Southern California. Designed exclusively for advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning operations, the project aimed to become the largest data center in California.
Initially, the Imperial County Supervisors had approved a plan in April to combine several land tracts necessary for the facility's development. However, the Supervisors later reversed their decision to approve the project, marking a setback for the developers following challenges from local residents.
