Linn County, Iowa, is seeking 20 to 25 residents to serve on a Data Center Advisory Committee created during the county’s 18-month moratorium on new large-scale data centers in unincorporated Linn County. The county may expand the committee to as many as 40 members by inviting representatives from cities in Linn County and the Johnson and Benton county boards of supervisors.

The committee will meet six to eight times from December 2026 through June 2027 and advise the Linn County Board of Supervisors on possible updates to data center regulations. Meetings will address energy and grid infrastructure, water resources, siting and planning, and zoning and facility lifecycles. Supervisor Brandy Meisheid said the process is intended to slow development, gather public input and support regional planning while the county evaluates data centers’ potential effects on infrastructure and land use.
