EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin Discusses Data Centers During New Hampshire Visit
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin discussed data center development and the consequences of state-imposed moratoriums during a visit to New Hampshire. He said the EPA is not dictating whether states or local communities allow data centers, but is sharing information and best practices on issues such as water reuse.
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin visited New Hampshire and addressed questions about data center development during a broader trip that included discussions of auto emissions and a stormwater drainage tunnel in Manchester. Zeldin argued that eliminating new data centers could make it harder for the country to meet future demand and said hyperscalers may move projects to other states if a state adopts a moratorium.
Zeldin said decisions about whether to permit or restrict data centers belong to state and local governments. He added that the EPA is not directing communities on moratoriums, but is providing information through its updated Water Reuse Action Plan, including examples and best practices for managing water-related impacts.
