A $70 million data center project by Crusoe is slated for southern Nolan County, Texas, promising substantial economic growth and job creation for the region, including the city of Sweetwater. Nolan County Judge Witley May highlighted the development's potential to generate millions in annual tax revenue for the county and city, alongside 40 permanent jobs and about 2,000 construction positions.
Despite anticipated short-term challenges such as increased traffic and strain on local resources during the construction phase, May emphasized that the long-term benefits to schools, the county, and the city, including a lower local tax burden and increased sales tax revenue, would outweigh these disruptions. To mitigate environmental concerns, Nolan County has established strict water usage restrictions for Crusoe, with severe penalties for exceeding limits or depleting local water resources. Construction on the data center is scheduled to commence in early May.
