Data center plans unclear after Delhi Township meeting goes against proposal
Delhi Township officials unanimously opposed a proposed $10 billion data center at the Holt Economic Opportunity Park after residents delivered overwhelming negative feedback at a crowded special meeting. Lighthouse Sustainability CEO Gary Dorris said the project’s future is unclear, though he argued the site could still support data center or other industrial development.
Delhi Township officials unanimously approved a resolution opposing Lighthouse Sustainability’s proposed $10 billion, 423-acre data center at the Holt Economic Opportunity Park near U.S. 127. The township said it had received about 350 negative public comments and eight positive ones, prompting officials to ask the Lansing Economic Area Partnership to stop work on the project.
The meeting drew hundreds of residents and was limited by a 177-person fire-code capacity, while the township had already enacted a one-year moratorium on data center development through April. Lighthouse Sustainability CEO Gary Dorris criticized the process and said online sentiment appeared more evenly divided, but acknowledged that the project’s future in Delhi Township remains uncertain and that alternative industrial development could be considered.
