Clarification on data center labeling on Sioux City City Council agenda
Sioux City officials clarified that a map on a City Council agenda, which was labeled as a "proposed data center location," was mislabeled and actually pertained to future growth and stormwater management, not a data center. Meanwhile, other Siouxland communities, Ida County and Salix, have scheduled meetings this week to discuss active data center proposals from Path One Data Centers and a potential Google project with MidAmerican Energy, respectively.
KCAU-TV reported a clarification from Sioux City officials regarding a city council agenda item. A map included in council packets mistakenly labeled a 700-acre plot east of the city as a "proposed data center location." City Economic and County Development Director Marty Doherty stated the map was mislabeled and actually depicted areas for future growth and stormwater management, not a specific data center project. The map was associated with a five-year-old capital improvement plan. The council approved $67,000 for a consulting agreement with HR Green for a regional stormwater detention basin program as part of its consent agenda.
The report also highlighted ongoing data center discussions in other Siouxland communities. On Tuesday evening, Ida County Supervisors were scheduled to host an informational meeting at the Ida Rec Center, where representatives from Des Moines-based Path One Data Centers were expected to lead discussions on a proposal.
Additionally, a significant data center proposal was set to come before the Salix City Council on Wednesday night. MidAmerican Energy recently identified Google as a prospective customer for a 900-acre site that has been annexed into Salix. Both Google and MidAmerican Energy were anticipated to have representatives present at the meeting to share information with the public regarding this project.
