Gov: Palo planning and zoning commission, Cedar Rapids School District

Google unveiled additional details about a proposed data center campus near the Duane Arnold nuclear plant in Palo, Iowa, during a community open house. The company says the project could generate $170 million in tax revenue for Palo, Linn County and the Cedar Rapids School District over two decades, and plans to establish a local advisory group focused on community benefits.

Google plans to ask Palo to annex a 650-acre site and an additional 100 acres for a connection to the city limits. Company representatives Allyson Eastman and Kiran Udayakumar said Google studied more than a century of Cedar River data and does not plan to use groundwater from bedrock aquifers for cooling. Palo’s planning and zoning commission is scheduled to review the annexation request Nov. 9, with Google targeting operations by the end of 2028.
