The Kearney City Council has given its approval to the Tech One Crossing AI data center project during its Tuesday night meeting. This decision came after the council adopted revised data center regulations and moved to rezone the land designated for the project.
City Manager Brenda Jensen discussed the rezoning during the meeting, which saw a considerable crowd fill the council chambers. Councilman Randy Buschkoetter praised the developer, stating, "Not only have these guys not been the bad guys, they have been really good examples of how to do it right."
Developed by Worldwide Mission Critical, the Tech One Crossing facility is slated to consume 368 megawatts of energy and will replace an existing 100-megawatt cryptocurrency mine. The council also passed a community benefit agreement, outlining the data center's commitment to delivering lasting and measurable advantages to Kearney and its surrounding areas.
