Hut 8, a company planning to build one of Texas's largest data centers, presented its Beacon Point project to the Calallen Independent School District (ISD) board. The presentation, held on Monday, was prompted by community concerns regarding the facility's potential impact on noise pollution, electricity consumption, and water usage. The proposed data center, described as having a nearly $20 billion lease, is planned for the Calallen area.
During the meeting, community members had an opportunity for public comment. Some residents expressed apprehension, particularly about the data center's proximity to an elementary school and the potential for noise pollution causing health issues like migraines.
Hut 8 spokespeople addressed these concerns, stating the company is conducting studies to mitigate noise through building design, has prepaid for electricity costs, and plans to source its own water.
