Vance County Commissioners to Discuss Data Center Moratorium
Vance County Commissioners will hold a committee meeting to discuss the requirements for a potential moratorium on data center development. Commissioner Leo Kelly, who supports slowing down development, had planned to introduce a motion for a moratorium.
Vance County Board of Commissioners Chair Carolyn Faines has scheduled a planning and environmental committee meeting for August 10th to explore the requirements for enacting a moratorium on data centers. This meeting is a direct response to ongoing community debate and opposition regarding a proposed data center on land recently rezoned along Hwy. 158 Business.
Commissioner Leo Kelly stated he had intended to propose a moratorium motion at a recent regular monthly meeting but was advised it would not comply with North Carolina General Statutes. Kelly, who supports slowing down the data center development process, noted strong public opposition expressed at a recent town hall forum. The upcoming committee meeting aims to address community concerns and determine appropriate next steps regarding data center development in Vance County.
