Escobar says she remains concerned over Fort Bliss data center
U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar remains concerned about a planned data center at Fort Bliss in El Paso, saying its revised location is still too close to homes. She also criticized the planned use of gas-generated power, while viewing the proposed use of brackish water treated at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Plant as a positive development.
Rep. Veronica Escobar said the Fort Bliss data center project has been reduced in size and moved to a new site, but remains too close to nearby residential areas. She said she will continue advocating for a different location and called for renewable energy to protect El Paso’s air quality.
The Army and Carlyle Group discussed the project’s latest changes with El Paso community stakeholders. The facility is still expected to use gas generation for power, which Escobar described as a serious concern, while its planned use of brackish water sent to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Plant for desalination was identified as a positive change.
