Protesters again rally against data centers in Yorkville

Residents in Yorkville, Illinois, gathered for another protest in Town Square Park to voice their opposition to the rapid development of data centers in the city. A protester articulated concerns that too many data centers are being proposed and expressed dissatisfaction with the city's current vetting process, which citizens feel lacks adequate public engagement and transparency. She specifically called for a pause on new data center approvals until more information is gathered regarding health and environmental impacts, particularly concerning water usage. Citizens desire public forums where they can actively ask questions and engage in a dialogue with city officials, rather than simply attending meetings where council members are unresponsive. The Yorkville city government has already approved three data center projects, with at least one additional application currently under review. Furthermore, the city council is considering a proposed rezoning initiative specifically for data centers, which currently does not have a designated user. This recent demonstration follows a similar protest held in December.
