Medford, New Jersey, has adopted an ordinance to prohibit data centers within its municipal boundaries. The Medford council took this preventative action despite not having received any formal applications for data center development.
Medford Mayor Michael Czyzyk stated that these measures are "extra precautions to ensure that we don’t move forward in a direction that we can’t come back from until we know full well what the impacts of data centers will be." The council reserves the right to amend the ordinance in the future to permit data centers if deemed appropriate.
Medford joins other South Jersey communities, including Cherry Hill, in taking steps to resist data center expansion.
