Demolition commenced on Tuesday at the 243-acre former Joslin Farm located at 2388 W. Millcreek Road in Sidney, Ohio, marking the start of construction for an Amazon data center. This development has sparked significant opposition from local residents, particularly those living near the site, who have expressed sadness over the conversion of farmland.
Marcia Montgomery, a long-time resident, voiced concerns regarding the City of Sidney's transparency about the project and its potential impacts on utilities and the environment. Montgomery reported receiving more information from a job supervisor than from city officials, who she claims have redacted key site plan documents. She described a loss of trust in the city council and officials. Residents have formed a group that attends council meetings, sends emails, requests public records, and circulates petitions. Construction activities have also led to temporary road closures on Millcreek Road, with initial delays due to supply issues. Despite the ongoing construction, "no data center" signs are prominently displayed in multiple yards, indicating continued community resistance.
