Data Center Company Pays $23 Million for Zoo-Area Site

The project faces significant local opposition, with residents advocating for strict regulations on tech facilities and a construction moratorium during a recent public hearing.
Atlanta-based DC BLOX has completed the $23 million acquisition of a 23.49-acre property at 648 Grassmere Park in South Nashville, near the Nashville Zoo. The purchase, reported by Axios Nashville and confirmed by a DC BLOX attorney, enables the company to proceed with plans for a data center project that has generated substantial opposition from local residents.
The seller of the property was Nashville-based MarketStreet Enterprises, known for its development work in The Gulch area. MarketStreet Enterprises had originally acquired the site in June 2015 for approximately $25.94 million. The site currently includes two structures which appear to be vacant.
Community resistance to the data center proposal has been significant, culminating in a seven-hour public hearing where Nashvillians voiced strong support for stringent regulations on technology facilities and the implementation of a construction moratorium. Residents also backed legislation from the mayor regarding eminent domain.
