Amazon Web Services is currently constructing a billion-dollar cloud computing data center in Clinton, Mississippi, on the former Delphi Packard Electric building site. This project is considered one of the largest industrial developments in the area, expected to expand local capabilities and improve residents' quality of life, according to Clinton Mayor Will Purdie.

Some residents voiced concerns about the data center potentially increasing power bills and drawing substantial amounts of water from local resources. Roger Wehner, Amazon's Economic Development Vice President, clarified that the facility will not use water for cooling purposes, only for domestic use. Entergy Vice President Jeremy Vanderloo also assured the community that the data center's electricity demands will not burden existing customers, as Amazon has separate arrangements with the utility.

The construction phase of the data center is providing approximately 1,500 jobs, and once operational, it will create around 100 permanent positions. Local officials and corporate partners recently marked the progress of the project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
