The North Texas city of Lavon, situated in Collin County, has enacted a temporary halt on approving new data center projects. City leaders passed a measure to conduct additional research into data centers before granting permits for their construction within the community.
This decision came after a well-attended public meeting where local residents expressed their concerns regarding potential data center developments. One specific project mentioned is a processing center planned for 79 acres along FM 2755, which abuts a residential neighborhood. Mayor Vicki Sanson, who has led Lavon for eight years, confirmed that there has only been one preliminary conversation with a developer for that site, and no formal applications have been submitted to City Hall. She also noted that data centers represent just one of 43 potential uses for the land.
Lavon's vote aligns with a broader trend, as Governor Abbott has recently ordered audits for proposed data centers across the state of Texas.
