Meta has announced the launch of a new workforce training academy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, offering free tuition and conditional job offers to graduates. The program, named America's Workforce Academy, is designed to train individuals for jobs in data center construction, grid modernization, and other AI infrastructure projects.
This initiative follows Meta's significant data center investment in Richland Parish, North Louisiana. Graduates of the four to five-week program will be guaranteed a conditional job offer to help build future Meta data centers.
While state and local leaders expressed enthusiasm for the program, concerns were raised regarding the lack of prior knowledge among elected officials about the project details before its public announcement. According to Louisiana Economic Development (LED), many multi-billion-dollar projects in the state, including this one, are typically shielded by non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) and public records exemptions until an official announcement. LED Secretary Don Pierson highlighted Meta's initial investment in North Louisiana as a catalyst for this new career pipeline. Meta plans to begin accepting applications soon and aims to have the academy operational by the end of the year.
