Cathedral City Construction Company Targeted by Online Misinformation After Vandalism
Sky Construction is experiencing harassment and threats due to false online claims linking the company to a proposed data center in Cathedral City. Owner Mario Cernik clarified they are not building a data center but are instead grading for a residential subdivision. Cathedral City officials confirm no data center projects are under consideration.
Sky Construction owner Mario Cernik is dealing with an online misinformation campaign that falsely links his company to a data center development in Cathedral City, California. This misinformation, which spread rapidly on social media, has led to harassment, threatening messages, and concerns for his family's safety. The false claims originated from a video of vandalism at a Sky Construction job site in April, which was reposted with an incorrect narrative that the equipment was for a data center.
Cernik emphasized that Sky Construction is not involved in any data center projects. He clarified that the work at the 100-acre site along Rio Vista Drive is for grading housing pads as part of a planned residential subdivision. Cathedral City officials corroborated this, confirming that no data center projects are under consideration in the city and that the ongoing grading is indeed for future residential development in the north end.
Following the initial vandalism, Sky Construction increased security at the job site. Cernik's primary concern now is addressing the rapid spread of false information and ensuring his family's protection.
