Jackson City Council has established a new Data Center Committee to address issues and potential impacts of data centers on the city, following a suggestion from Councilwoman Megan Wiseman. This action comes after the council approved a 12-month moratorium on data center development to allow city administrators to review applicable codes and regulations. The committee will explore these issues, especially in light of initial industry interest and unconfirmed reports of a company pursuing a data center in Scioto Township.

Jackson City Council recently established a new Data Center Committee, following a suggestion from Third Ward Councilwoman Megan Wiseman. The committee's formation, announced at the August 10 meeting by Council President Dan Fulks, aims to proactively address issues and potential impacts related to data centers within the city. All seven council members will serve on this new committee, with Wiseman as its chair.

This action comes after the Council passed a 12-month moratorium on data center development and conversions on July 13. The moratorium was enacted to provide city administrators with time to review existing codes and regulations pertinent to data center activities. Mayor Randy Evans and First Ward Councilman Ryan Peters had previously indicated some initial interest from the data center industry in the city, underscoring the need for a proactive approach.

The issue has gained local prominence partly due to unconfirmed reports of an unnamed company exploring the possibility of establishing a data center in Scioto Township, which is located nearby. The committee will now delve into these matters to better prepare Jackson for potential data center developments.
