Aurora lawmakers are preparing to consider a proposed data center moratorium as they advance new residential buffer requirements. Councilmember Amy Wiles has proposed prohibiting data centers within 750 feet of existing or planned homes and requiring public hearings and conditional-use approval for facilities between 750 feet and one-half mile from residences.

The proposal would allow data centers as a use by right when they are located in approved industrial or airport zones and more than a half-mile from homes. Vantage vice president for global marketing Mark Freeman said no decision has been made to relocate the company’s project.
