The Jerome Township Zoning Commission declined to recommend rezoning 165.7 acres next to an Amazon data center campus and a proposed future data center site, citing concerns that the property owners had not identified a specific intended use. The recommendation now goes to the Jerome Township Board of Trustees, while a separate feature examines Expedient's Dublin data center, including its air-cooled design, low water use and lack of neighborhood noise complaints.
The Jerome Township Zoning Commission voted 2-2, with one abstention, on a request to rezone nearly 166 acres along Mitchell-DeWitt Road from rural residential to commercial. The property lies directly west of an Amazon data center campus and a proposed data center complex owned by BA Mitchell LLC. Commissioners divided over the absence of a detailed use narrative, although supporters said the rezoning was consistent with the township's comprehensive plan. The commission will formally recommend denial to the Jerome Township Board of Trustees, which has final authority.
The newsletter also reports on a tour of Expedient's CMH2 facility in Dublin. Steve Gruetter of Expedient said the operator serves commercial and government customers, including the City of Marysville and Union County agencies, without seeking taxpayer-funded incentives. The facility uses air cooling, consumes about as much water as a 42-person office building and houses backup generators in sound-dampening enclosures; the company says monthly testing has produced no noise complaints.
