Kingston data center: City leaders approve special use permit
Kingston officials approved a special use permit for Thor Equities to build a 350,000-square-foot data center on a 560-acre site along State Road 293. Residents strongly opposed the project over concerns about water use, power grid strain, noise, pollution and habitat loss, and some are preparing a lawsuit to block construction.
Kingston officials approved a special use permit for Thor Equities’ proposed 350,000-square-foot data center on 560 acres near State Road 293 and Law Road. Mayor Michael McFarland said the project could generate at least $2 million annually for the city and create more than 50 jobs, although construction and project start dates have not been announced.
Residents expressed strong opposition during the vote, citing potential impacts on water consumption, electricity infrastructure, noise, pollution, wildlife habitat and rural property values. A group of opponents has consulted attorneys and plans to file a lawsuit challenging the project, but no lawsuit has yet been filed.
