Charlotte City Council members are weighing policy changes on data centers after a proposed facility in East Charlotte sparked debate and raised concerns from nearby residents about water and energy usage. A developer has submitted a rezoning petition for a 58-acre plot of land on Hood Road to allow up to 40,000 square feet of data storage. The site sits just south of Plaza Road Extension and adjacent to established single-family neighborhoods. However, city council could step in and make changes that would affect all future proposals.
