A dispute is brewing between the Tarrant County cities of Keller and Westlake, Texas, concerning a data center development approved by Westlake's Planning and Zoning Commission. The proposed 18-acre facility, located along Highway 377 in southern Westlake, sits near the border of Keller and is approximately 500 feet from a Keller neighborhood.
Keller City Council, under Mayor Ross McMullin, held a special meeting where they unanimously voted to retain legal counsel to explore all available options to stop the project. The meeting was packed with residents from Keller, Westlake, and Grapevine who voiced deep concerns regarding potential health and environmental impacts, including noise, air, and light pollution from the AI data center. No one spoke in favor of the data center's location during the meeting.
Westlake town leaders previously released a statement indicating that the project is aimed at creating a "stronger, more financially sustainable future while protecting everything that makes Westlake special." Westlake town leaders are scheduled to meet on Monday for a vote on the development.
