A Beauregard Parish Police Jury workshop on creating regulations for data centers became contentious as residents accused officials of withholding information about potential development. The parish has a moratorium in place through the end of 2026, and officials said it could continue into 2027 if no ordinance is adopted.

The Beauregard Parish Police Jury held a workshop to discuss an ordinance governing data centers, but the meeting was dominated by resident opposition and accusations that officials had not been transparent about potential industry interest in the parish. Dry Creek resident Suzi Gillette said she believed the jury had already been approached about a data center project.

Police jury attorney David Morgan confirmed that one entity had expressed interest, though he provided no further details. President Eddie Ware said no data centers could proceed until the existing moratorium is lifted and an ordinance is approved, while Morgan said the moratorium would continue into 2027 if regulations are not adopted by the end of 2026.
