Hill County, Texas, residents continue to oppose proposed data center development, packing a Commissioners Court meeting to voice concerns. County leaders postponed discussion on a waiver to the existing development moratorium. The county is also facing a $100 million lawsuit related to the dispute.
Residents of Hill County, Texas, once again filled the Commissioners Court on Friday to express their concerns regarding a proposed data center development and advocate for the county to maintain its existing restrictions on future projects.
Hill County Judge Shane Brassell announced during the meeting that several agenda items, including a discussion about a waiver to the county's development moratorium, would be tabled and rescheduled for a later date with clearer language.
Despite the postponement, community members utilized the public comment session to address county leaders. Residents voiced anxieties about the long-term impact of data centers on their community, the preservation of the county's rural character, and urged officials to continue opposing what they described as unwanted development. One resident mentioned that RCM Hill had invested 16 months and a million dollars into their project, contrasting it with the lifelong investments made by community members.
Adding to the complexities, Hill County is also contending with a $100 million lawsuit directly linked to the ongoing data center dispute.
