The Utah County Planning Commission voted in favor of a proposal allowing data centers and mining operations in agricultural, grazing and industrial zones. The decision followed weeks of public criticism and opposition to the change.
During the meeting, Utah County Sheriff's deputies removed and arrested a protester affiliated with Protect Utah. The woman said deputies injured her and that she was not involved in the disruption, while the Sheriff's Office said she refused to leave, argued with deputies and struck one of them. She was booked on charges including assault on an officer, and two people who attempted to stop her removal were cited. Provo EMS found no emergent injuries, while Protect Utah said she suffered a concussion.
