Santa Rosa County moves toward temporary AI data center moratorium
Santa Rosa County is considering a temporary moratorium on artificial intelligence data centers, potentially becoming the first county in Northwest Florida to do so. The proposed ban, which could last until June 2027, saw one commissioner vote against it, arguing it doesn't go far enough.
Santa Rosa County in Northwest Florida is moving to implement a temporary moratorium on the development of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. If enacted, this measure would pause new AI data center construction in the county until at least June 2027.
The proposal was met with a dissenting vote from Commissioner Ray Eddington, who was the only Santa Rosa County Commissioner to vote against the proposed 12-month ban. Commissioner Eddington's objection stemmed from his belief that the proposed ban was insufficient.
