Vermillion County Commissioner Ray Donovan stated that the commissioners had not had sufficient time to thoroughly review the ordinance. He announced that a special meeting would be held later this month to examine the documents in detail. Commissioner Donovan expressed his personal opinion that the ordinance, as written, lacked adequate protections and emphasized the need for county zoning to address these concerns.
The proposed ordinance stems from the Vermillion Rise Mega Park, a 7,000-acre industrial facility. While residents generally support new businesses, many draw the line at data centers, citing potential negative impacts, particularly on water resources. It remains unclear if a specific data center project has been proposed for the area, but community leaders are urging residents to speak out now, anticipating significant changes to the ordinance before a final decision.
