Martin County commissioners unanimously approved a one-year moratorium on new data center development in a 4-0 vote. The pause will not affect a previously submitted application for the county's first proposed hyperscale data center near Kanner Highway and Interstate 95.

The Martin County Board of Commissioners approved a one-year moratorium on new data center development by a 4-0 vote following a second reading of the measure. County leaders said the pause will provide time to determine how future data center projects should be handled.

The action followed the submission of an application for a hyperscale data center in unincorporated Martin County, off Kanner Highway west of Interstate 95. Because that application was filed before the moratorium took effect, it will not be subject to the development pause. The proposal has drawn concerns from local residents about the county's future growth in the data center sector.
