Hill County commissioners rescind moratorium on data center construction
Hill County commissioners unanimously rescinded a one-year moratorium on data center construction in unincorporated areas. The reversal came after a data center developer with pending deals in the county filed a lawsuit over the previously enacted moratorium.
Hill County commissioners voted unanimously on Thursday to rescind a one-year moratorium on data center construction in unincorporated areas. This decision comes just one week after the moratorium was initially enacted by a 3-2 vote last month.
The reversal was prompted by legal action and threats of further lawsuits from a data center developer who had pending deals in Hill County. The developer had sued over the moratorium, which was deemed legally dubious. Construction for a CyrusOne data center is ongoing in neighboring Bosque County, approximately a mile from the Hill County line.
