The Elkhart City Council in Indiana is scheduled to discuss a temporary moratorium on new data center and battery energy storage system applications at its upcoming Monday night meeting. First District Councilman Aaron Mishler introduced the proposed ordinance.
According to Mishler's memo, the measure aims to safeguard public health, safety, and welfare by providing time for the city to conduct comprehensive impact studies. If enacted, the moratorium would remain in effect until December 31, 2027. The proposal's first reading is set for the council's Monday evening session.
