North Pekin Village Drafting Data Center Ordinance, Rezoning Vote Rescheduled

Mayor Flowers stated that two main concerns are being addressed: the rezoning of a former AMC theater from commercial to light industrial and the development of a village-wide data center ordinance.
The rezoning vote for the former AMC theater was postponed because more information was required. Both the rezoning issue and the proposed data center ordinance are scheduled for discussion during the August Land and Zoning Board meeting. Mayor Flowers explained that the village currently lacks specific regulations for data centers, necessitating the new ordinance. The goal of this stand-alone ordinance is to prevent the construction of large data centers while still accommodating businesses that require these facilities.
