Cranbury Bans Data Centers and Immigrant Detention Centers
The Cranbury Township Committee voted to ban data centers within the township after months of organizing by residents and environmental advocates. The Climate Revolution Action Network and coalition partners are now urging Gov. Mikie Sherrill and the New Jersey Legislature to enact a three-year statewide data center moratorium.
Cranbury Township Committee members voted to prohibit data centers in the Middlesex County township, joining other New Jersey municipalities that have adopted local bans. Committeewoman Eman El-Badawi said the measure would protect Cranbury’s environment, infrastructure and quality of life, while also banning immigrant detention centers.
The Climate Revolution Action Network, led by Executive Director Ben Dziobek, supported the local ban and is pressing Gov. Mikie Sherrill and the New Jersey Legislature to establish a statewide moratorium. The coalition, which includes the Pinelands Alliance, Food & Water Watch and Sustain South Jersey, is seeking a three-year pause on data center development along with safeguards addressing utility costs, air and water pollution, and noise.
