Greene County commissioners approved ending the county’s lease for the closed pool at Wana B Park and authorized Cumberland Township to oversee its demolition. The meeting also included discussion of environmental cleanup at the former Robena Mine site, where the proposed Project Hummingbird could include a natural gas-powered hyperscale data center, but commissioners said there had been no recent movement from International Electric Power.

The Greene County Board of Commissioners approved an addendum ending the county’s long-term lease for the Wana B Park pool in Cumberland Township and authorizing the township to manage demolition. The county will contribute up to $100,000 toward the project, while the township may pursue a splash pad and arcade for the site.

During the meeting, Center for Coalfield Justice organizer Christina Blasinsky asked about discussions concerning the former Robena Mine site in Monongahela Township. The proposed Project Hummingbird would use 1,400 acres for two natural gas turbines with a combined capacity of 910 megawatts to power a hyperscale data center. Commissioners said their discussions with Monongahela Township and federal lawmakers focused on environmental mitigation and cleanup of the brownfield, which has been leaching coal waste into the Monongahela River, rather than on the data center itself. Commissioner Blair Zimmerman said International Electric Power had provided no updates on the project.
