Residents in Maquoketa, Iowa, organized a protest against a proposed data center campus, citing concerns about secrecy from the city council and potential negative impacts. The demonstration was part of a national day of data center protests.

Chris Jacobs, one of the organizers, expressed that the protest represents the entire town's concern for their children and grandchildren, emphasizing it's not a political issue but a community one. Elias Lang Lois, a relatively new resident, brought his family to the protest, teaching his daughters the importance of standing up to local politicians and corporations.

The proposal involves a small to mid-sized data center campus on 46 acres in the city's South Industrial Park. Protesters are demanding a "big pause" on the project, insisting that citizens' voices be heard.

WQAD News 8 reported that the data center project remains in its early stages, and the city has not yet announced a timeline for construction. Residents, including Jacobs, are committed to continuing their fight against the development.
