Lexington council to discuss data center regulations, hear public input
The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council will hold a public meeting on proposed data center regulations and hear comments on recommendations from the planning commission. The council previously enacted a moratorium on data center permits, development plans and zoning changes through October after a potential project was announced at Lexmark’s former site.
The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council is scheduled to discuss data center regulations at the Government Center on Oct. 6 and receive public comments on recommendations submitted by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Planning Commission. The recommendations include limiting data centers to 40,000 square feet.
The council imposed a moratorium in June 2026 on data center permits, development plans and zone changes through the end of October. The action followed the announcement of a potential data center development at Lexmark’s former Lexington site.
