The Town of Blanchard in Louisiana approved a water services agreement in December 2025, which will provide millions of gallons of water per day for a proposed data center development near Caddo Lake. The agreement has raised questions regarding potential impacts on the lake's ecosystem, particularly its significant alligator population.

However, state wildlife officials, including Jeb Linscombe, Biologist Program Manager for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, have stated that they do not anticipate any negative effects. Linscombe indicated that while the developers have not yet decided to draw water from Caddo Lake, any withdrawals would not significantly alter the lake's water levels, thus posing no expected impact on the alligators, which are abundant in the lake.
