A proposal for a new data center in Boulder City's Eldorado Valley, Nevada, has created significant division among residents and city leaders. During a recent City Council meeting, council members voted to advance the project, proposed by Town Site Solar two, to the Planning Commission for recommendation, a decision that has sparked widespread concern among the local populace. Brynn Delorme, a Boulder City resident, has been vocal in her opposition, organizing petitions and displaying signs against new data center developments. Residents express worries about the strain on local resources, particularly power and water, stating that the city lacks the necessary infrastructure. They also voice concerns over potential heat and noise impacts from the facility, which would be located just 2.8 miles from the nearest residence. Richard Lammers, project manager for Town Site Solar two, addressed these concerns, explaining that the company plans to purchase energy directly from the grid, not from Boulder City's system, and will use a closed-loop water system requiring a one-time 400,000-gallon fill. He also stated that the facility would be insulated and positioned to minimize noise and heat impact on residents. While developers highlight economic benefits as a key reason for council approval, residents argue the city should explore other options to address budget shortfalls. The proposal is set to face the Planning Commission on May 20th, with residents encouraged to attend and voice their opinions. Additionally, Boulder City residents will vote in November on a ballot question regarding whether data centers should be an approved land use in the El Dorado Valley.
