Memphis Mayor Addresses Questions Ahead of Data Center Moratorium Vote
Memphis Mayor Paul Young discussed an upcoming City Council vote on a data center moratorium and related city actions. Officials are working with SpaceXAI and community stakeholders, while revising construction truck routes to reduce congestion on Holmes Road near John P. Freeman.
Memphis Mayor Paul Young said the city issued an executive order and is preparing for a City Council vote on a proposed data center moratorium. Chief Operating Officer Chris Winton has been leading meetings with SpaceXAI and community stakeholders, with Young participating in at least one discussion.
The city also worked with SpaceXAI and its engineering department to reroute construction trucks away from Holmes Road, where traffic congestion has been reported near John P. Freeman. Trucks are being directed to use Elvis Presley Boulevard and State Line Road, although officials said it will take time for all vendors to adopt the new route.
