The Killeen City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission reconsidered proposed data center regulations, reversing an earlier plan that would have required a conditional-use permit. The council instead requested an alternative ordinance without that requirement; Councilwoman Mellisa Brown was the lone dissenting vote.

Killeen officials reversed an earlier decision that would have required data centers to obtain conditional-use permits. During a joint meeting of the Killeen City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission, officials asked staff to return with an alternative ordinance that removes the stipulation. Councilwoman Mellisa Brown, who originally proposed the conditional-use requirement, opposed the change.

The data center zoning discussion was included in a weekly roundup also covering Marie Peoples’ appointment as Killeen city manager, the start of construction on a $160 million Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic in Copperas Cove, a lawsuit against Killeen Independent School District, and the detection of West Nile virus in Harker Heights.
