Mahomet wasn’t the only Champaign County village approached by a data center company
Two additional Champaign County villages were approached about potential data center projects after Mahomet ended talks with a developer. Nodiak discussed a possible small facility near Sidney, while ABI Energy expressed interest in a project near Tolono, but neither company submitted a zoning application.
Champaign County Zoning Director told WCIA that Nodiak had shown interest in developing a small data center near Sidney and that ABI Energy had discussed a potential project near Tolono. Neither proposal advanced to a formal zoning application.
Tolono Village President said the company’s contact with the village ended around December 2025 or January 2026, with no additional discussions planned. The report follows Mahomet’s decision to end talks with a separate data center developer and notes that county officials have not been approached about other projects.
