The executive order follows concerns raised by residents, such as Wahoo native Kendra Robinson, regarding the environmental impact and potential water crisis associated with the rapidly expanding data center industry.
While a Google-owned data center site near North 56th and Highway 77 in Lincoln continued construction, workers expressed relief that the order would address some of these worries. The Governor's executive order also establishes a data center task force, which Robinson hopes will provide clarity on water usage, environmental impact, and job security related to data center development. A request for comment from the construction company on site received no immediate response.
