Hallam Data Center Moves Forward After Unanimous Vote
The Hallam Village Board unanimously approved a special-use permit for a 35-megawatt modular data center at Monolith’s Olive Creek site. Monolith is partnering with Crusoe on the 10-acre project, which will provide Hallam with $1 million and annual payments once operational, although construction timing has not been announced.
The Hallam Village Board unanimously approved a special-use permit for a 35-megawatt modular data center on Monolith’s existing Olive Creek property. Monolith is partnering with Crusoe to develop the 10-acre facility, which would be located near the company’s carbon black manufacturing plant.
Board Chairman Gary Vocasek said residents have expressed differing views about the project and its long-term effects. Crusoe has agreed to contribute $1 million to Hallam when the facility becomes operational, followed by $150,000 annually for 10 years; the village plans to create a committee to recommend how the money is spent. Monolith CEO Russ Webb thanked the community and said the company would continue engaging with residents, but no construction start date has been set.
