New permits eyed for Mason Co. data center-tied project after eight-figure WV support
Monarch Cloud Campus LLC is pursuing a new air quality permit for its 2.16-gigawatt gas-fired power generation and data center project in Mason County, West Virginia. The project involves 864 natural gas engines to power three data centers, and the developer abandoned a previous permit before seeking this new one from the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection.
Monarch Cloud Campus LLC, a Houston-based developer, is actively seeking an air quality permit for a substantial industrial project in Mason County, West Virginia, near Point Pleasant. This development, which has received considerable eight-figure state financial support, includes a 2.16-gigawatt, gas-fired off-grid electric power generation facility. The facility is designed to host 864 natural gas-fueled heat engines, specifically reciprocating internal combustion engines, to power three co-located data centers.
The new permit application is currently under review by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). This action follows Monarch Cloud Campus LLC's decision to surrender an earlier air quality permit, which the DEP had issued in November, for the same Point Pleasant area development.
