The Marshall Police Department will not file criminal charges against an individual who made threats against city council members, stemming from discussions about data center developments. An anonymous complaint prompted the investigation into threats to kill council members.
Chief Josh Lankford stated that there was not enough evidence at the time to proceed with charges, and the anonymous tipster no longer believes the person who made the threats is a danger. Lankford emphasized the importance of civil dialogue and hopes this incident serves as a message for the public to avoid violent rhetoric, even on topics they feel strongly about.
Earlier in the week, the Marshall City Council unanimously approved a one-year moratorium on all data center development, including a proposed project at Brooks Industrial Park. Councilman James Hackworth called the threats "completely unacceptable" despite the moratorium being enacted.
