The Fayetteville City Council adopted a revised Unified Development Ordinance amendment that establishes conditional rezoning as the review process for warehouse developments proposed to contain data centers. The amendment also clarifies rules covering unlisted uses, development density, permitted uses and nonconformities, and was found consistent with the city’s comprehensive plan.
The amendment will take effect when a public hearing is held on a proposed data center moratorium. The council approved scheduling that hearing and directed staff to prepare a draft ordinance, but no hearing date has been announced. The changes followed months of work involving city staff, planning professionals, attorneys, community feedback and outside counsel.
